The Importance of U.S. Healthcare Reform: In Comic Geek Terms

Once again, Bleeding Cool Rich Johnston  has tuned me in to comic-world buzz that’s right up my alley, calling attention to a recent post on the official website of Barry Windsor-Smith, where the legendary comic creator puts some fanboy perspective on the need for healthcare reform in the United States. Back in the 1970’s, Windsor-Smith had a health crisis of his own, which started much like mine–with a lump in his neck, but because he lacked the nifty corporate medical coverage that I benefi

Jim Lee on a JLA book?

Take everything that follows with a liberal dose of “I’ll believe it when I see it.” For sometime there have been rumours that Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are going to collaborate on a Justice League story or title. As usual these rumours come from Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool. The latest incarnation involves a question asked to Lee at a convention. From Bleeding Cool … Jim Lee was asked by a fan during his panel at the Wizard World Big Apple Comic Con if he would be working on Justice Lea

Comic Book Written By Michael Jackson On The Way?

It's common knowledge in comic book lore that a superhero never truly dies—and it looks like that rule is crossing over into reality, if only for one upcoming comics project. According to Bleeding Cool , a graphic novel written by none other than Michael Jackson himself is heading to comic book stores next June through Random House. The graphic novel, titled " Fated ," focuses on the story of Gabriel Star, a well-loved musician with obvious parallels to the tragically deceased King of Po

DC Comics going Hollywood?

After the recent shake-ups in DC Comics , rumors of even more changes are in the wind. Bleeding Cool and other news sites are reporting that DC may be vacating their New York offices and moving to California. For now, it remains just a rumor, but there are several reasons why such a move would make sense. With the recent reorganization, parent company Time-Warner has placed DC Comics under their film division . This reflects the growing influence that comic book movies have garnered in rec

Meanwhile… | The latest SEQA-related news

• Publishers | Not too recently, DC Comics is now becoming DC Entertainment. Rich Johnston reported that DC Comics could be moving their headquarters to LA to be in the hustle and bustle of the Hollywood industry. Our professors at SCAD have told us that breaking into mainstream comics happens in New York, but will that still be applicable if DC Comics makes the move? [Bleeding Cool] In a related story, manga publisher Kodansha is coming to America and setting up offices in New York. [Publisher’

Will Quesada Start Strapping If East Coast/West Coast Comics Rivalry Becomes A Reality?

The Bleeding Cool Rich Johnston  noted some rumblings at the Long Beach Comic Con about DC Comics packing up its New York-based headquarters to move publishing to the West Coast, presumably as part of the new Warner Brothers interest in consolodating and energizing its efforts with “DC Entertainment.” The New York Comics Scene is already a bit of a myth, what with so many of the most popular talents who work for the NY-based Big Two phoning in to their Gotham masters from other states or coun

Lying In The Gutters – September 28th, 2009

Lying In The Gutters, the Monday runaround of the week on Bleeding Cool with one or new stories to boot. To sign up to the Lying In The Gutters mailing list and get this weekly post mailed to you, look to the right… There are a number of blogs about Steve Ditko. One even repurposes his words . But now, it seems, there will be an actual blog by Steve Ditko on, well, everything probably. Where he types up what he wants to say, and friends will transcribe it online.

The Official Handbook To The Agent Provocateur Universe?

Bleeding Cool previously reported on Staz Johnson’s work on the lingerie brand Agent Provocateur comic book-catalogue, featuring a Barbarella-Russ Meyer style futuristic sci-fi with babes in nipple tassles. I understand the second issue will feature another familiar comics name, this time Joe Rubenstein, a classic comic book artist who is still most associated for his work for the Official Handbook To The Marvel Universe . Currently inking Green Arrow/Black Canary , we’re pleased to know
